He looked over the vast land. So beautiful, so tempting. He could choose this life. He had all the needed materials. A suitcase full of clothes, a satchel with a camera and notebook. He even carried a fancy watch that also served as a compass. He was alone and with money. No one could stop him from gallivanting or trying delicious drinks. But... there was something stopping him. He took that moment to glance down at his phone.
Several missed calls from his mother and text messages galore.
Where are you?
Are you doing ok?
Don't do anything dangerous! ;)
Oh mom, he thought. He was in his late twenties but his mom still worried about him. His dad, her husband, had died years ago. Now it had just been the two of them. His mom had many health problems but carried such a gentle soul. He couldn't leave her. She needed him as much as he needed her. How else was he going to get advice about women?
The man looked over the landscape one more time and then went back to his hotel room. He packed his suitcase, checked the room and got out his phone.
I'm coming home mom, he texted.
